Success is not an accident. It is the product of intentional living—where your faith, discipline, mindset, and effort all come into harmony with God’s will. Many desire success, yet they drift through life waiting for luck or miracles without applying themselves. But let’s be honest: you cannot expect to be a success when you spend most of your day sleeping, scrolling endlessly through social media, or watching TV without any focus on your goals.

HOW TO BE A SUCCESS: Spiritually and Physically

Success is not reserved for a selected few. It is God’s desire for all His children to live a fruitful, fulfilling life that brings Him glory. However, success doesn’t just fall on you like ripe fruit from a tree. There are principles, habits, and disciplines—both spiritual and physical—that must be embraced. The Bible makes it clear that God’s plans for us are good (Jeremiah 29:11), but we must be willing to partner with His process.

Success is spiritual, mental, and physical. You must build from the inside out, taking hold of your purpose and aligning every part of your life with it.

Let’s walk through the divine pathway to success, deeply rooted in the Word of God, paired with personal responsibility, and real examples that prove success is possible for those who truly desire it.

Understand God’s Definition of Success

The world defines success by fame, wealth, and possessions. But God’s definition is rooted in purpose, obedience, fruitfulness, and eternal impact.

Joshua 1:8 says:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Key Truth: God’s success is tied to His Word.

True success is becoming who God has created you to be and doing what He’s assigned you to do. That includes spiritual maturity, fulfilling your calling, and walking in divine purpose—not just acquiring things.

1. Start with God – The True Source of Success

Start with a Relationship with God

Jesus said in John 15:5:

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Success without God is ultimately empty. A close, intimate relationship with Jesus is your foundation. That means:

  • Spending time in the Word daily

  • Praying with sincerity and faith

  • Worshiping Him in spirit and truth

Testimony: A young woman once shared how she left a high-paying job to follow God’s instruction to start a ministry for abused women. Though it looked foolish in the eyes of others, she is now seeing lives transformed, and God has provided all she needs. That’s success.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” – Psalm 127:1 NIV

God is not just part of the success equation—He is the foundation. Too many chase success without God, only to find emptiness when they get what they wanted. Real success begins by recognizing God as your source and sustainer.

What You Must Do:

  • Surrender your plans to God in prayer. Ask Him, “Lord, what would You have me do?”

  • Daily devotion is non-negotiable. Set aside quiet time each morning to read the Word and seek direction.

  • Be obedient. Sometimes God will ask you to do things that don’t make logical sense. Success often follows obedience.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” – Proverbs 16:3 NIV

Obedience is the bridge between prophecy and manifestation. God blesses obedience, not just ambition.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2:

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands… all these blessings will come upon you and accompany you…”

Renew Your Mind Daily

Your mind is the battlefield of success. If you believe you’re a failure, you’ll behave like one. God wants you to see yourself through His Word.

Romans 12:2:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Renew your mind by:

  • Reading and declaring the Scriptures

  • Listening to teachings that build your faith

  • Avoiding negative, toxic content

Speak success over yourself:

“I am fruitful. I am favored. I walk in divine purpose. I attract wisdom, excellence, and divine help.”

When God gives an instruction—whether it’s to forgive someone, start a project, sow a seed, or change your environment—obey quickly. Many people miss success because they delay obedience.

Spiritual Alignment = Strategic Clarity.

When you walk closely with God, your steps are ordered, and you’re empowered to avoid distractions and wrong opportunities that waste time and resources.

2. Have a Vision and Work Toward It

“Write the vision and make it plain… that he may run who reads it.” – Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV

God blesses intentionality. A wandering life can never be a successful life. You must have a clear vision of where you are going and what success means for yo.

Have a Clear Vision

You cannot pursue what you have not defined. What does success look like for you?

Proverbs 29:18:

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

Write your vision down. Create a plan. Set goals. Faith is not laziness—it’s believing and acting.

Action Steps:

  • Write down your short and long-term goals

  • Break them into daily or weekly tasks

  • Revisit your vision regularly

Practical Steps:

  • Write your goals down. A goal not written is only a wish.

  • Create an action plan. Break your vision into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.

  • Avoid procrastination. The success you desire tomorrow must be worked for today.

It is not spiritual laziness to plan. Even Jesus had a focused mission and timeline. So should you.

3. Develop Discipline and Diligence

“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” – Proverbs 10:4 NIV

You cannot pray your way into success and sleep away your responsibilities. Many people pray but never show up with effort. Success demands consistency, not wishful thinking.

Practical Things to Do:

  • Wake up early. Great achievers start their day before distractions set in.

  • Master your habits. Small daily disciplines—like reading, learning, organizing—produce long-term impact.

  • Stop waiting to feel like it. Discipline means doing it even when you don’t feel motivated.

Spiritual success is not divorced from natural effort. You must study if you want to pass. You must serve if you want to lead. You must produce if you want to be promoted.

4. Pursue Excellence, Not Just Results

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23 NIV

Success is not just about achieving big things—it’s about doing small things with excellence. Many never rise because they treat their current tasks with mediocrity.

What Excellence Looks Like:

  • Go the extra mile. Don’t just do what is expected—exceed it.

  • Be on time. Be dependable. Show that you can be trusted with responsibility.

  • Present yourself well. Whether in business, ministry, or personal life, appearance and attitude matter.

A sloppy life cannot yield a successful outcome. Jesus turned water into wine—and not just any wine, but the best wine. Excellence glorifies God.

5. Cultivate Wisdom and Knowledge

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” – Proverbs 4:7 KJV

You cannot rise higher than your level of knowledge. Successful people are readers, researchers, and lifelong learners. They invest in their minds, not just their looks.

Embrace Diligence and Discipline

You can’t pray for success and spend all your time watching movies and sleeping late. God blesses the works of your hands, not the comfort of your bed.

Proverbs 10:4:

“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.”

Success requires:

  • Waking up early to maximize your day

  • Doing the hard things consistently

  • Delaying pleasure for purpose

Testimony: A young mother, who also worked full-time, shared how she built her online store by waking up an hour earlier each day. Now, she runs a profitable business that supports her family.

What You Can Do:

Be Consistent in the Small Things

Big success is built on small, consistent actions. Don’t despise the day of small beginnings.

Luke 16:10:

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much…”

Start where you are:

  • If you’re called to speak, record short videos

  • If you’re a writer, post weekly articles

  • If you’re in business, serve your few clients excellently

God will multiply what you’re faithful with.

  •  Waking up early to maximize your day
  • Doing the hard things consistently

  • Delaying pleasure for purpose

Testimony: A young mother, who also worked full-time, shared how she built her online store by waking up an hour earlier each day. Now, she runs a profitable business that supports her family.

  • Read daily. Books, blogs, articles—keep feeding your mind.

  • Take courses. Equip yourself for the next level you are praying for.

  • Surround yourself with wise people. Who you listen to determines how far you rise.

God gives wisdom, but you must pursue it. Even Jesus “grew in wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52). If the Son of God grew, so must you.

6. Stay Humble and Teachable

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” – James 4:6 NIV

Pride is a silent destroyer of success. It makes you unteachable, uncorrectable, and eventually unfruitful. To truly succeed, you must remain a student for life.

What That Means:

  • Accept feedback. Even when it hurts, correction builds character.

  • Don’t assume you know it all. Listen more than you speak.

  • Honor those ahead of you. Mentors are multipliers of wisdom.

Humility opens doors. Pride shuts them. The higher you go, the more grounded you must become.

Surround Yourself with the Right People

Success is not a solo journey. Who you walk with determines how far you’ll go.

Proverbs 13:20:

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Be intentional about relationships:

  • Connect with mentors and coaches

  • Join faith-based communities

  • Avoid people who kill your dreams with negativity

7. Serve Others with a Pure Heart

“The greatest among you will be your servant.” – Matthew 23:11 NIV

Success is not about stepping on others to climb—it’s about lifting others as you rise. A self-centered life never goes far.

Sow Seeds—Spiritually and Physically

Every harvest begins with a seed. This applies to giving, time, energy, love, and knowledge.

Galatians 6:7:

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

If you want financial success, sow into others generously. If you want emotional success, sow kindness. If you want spiritual success, sow in prayer and the Word.

  • Help others reach their goals. You reap what you sow.

  • Be generous with your time and resources.

  • Listen with compassion. People are not stepping stones—they are treasures.

Stay Grateful and Humble

Success can be dangerous if not handled with humility. Gratitude keeps your heart in the right posture.

James 4:6:

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Don’t compare your journey with others. Celebrate your growth and stay grounded in God.

Testimony: One man testified that his business only took off after he shifted from complaining to daily thanksgiving. Gratitude opens doors.

When you bless others, God blesses you. Generosity, service, and love are the secret weapons of lasting success.

8. Protect Your Environment

“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV

Your surroundings can make or destroy your success. Who you allow into your life determines your momentum.

You Must:

  • Remove distractions. Cut out people, habits, and places that drain your focus.

  • Surround yourself with dreamers and doers.

  • Set boundaries. Protect your time, mind, and spirit from toxic influences.

Even Jesus distanced Himself from the crowd to focus and pray. Guard your environment like your life depends on it—because it does.

9. Persevere Through Delays and Disappointments

“We do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.” – Hebrews 10:39 NIV

Not every day will feel victorious. You will face delays, rejection, and seasons that test your faith. But success belongs to those who keep moving forward even when progress feels slow.

Testimony:
Lara, a woman who once lost her job and almost gave up on her dreams, decided to start a small baking business from home. She faced months of no orders. But she prayed, improved her skills, gave out free samples, and remained consistent. Today, she supplies major cafés across her city—and gives God all the glory.

God does not forget your labor. Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

10. Stay Spiritually Fed and Active

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 NKJV

Success is not only about goals—it’s about your soul. Stay spiritually sharp. The Word of God is your compass, your fuel, and your strength.

Daily Habits:

  • Pray intentionally.

  • Study the Bible consistently.

  • Fast when led.

  • Worship from your heart.

When your spirit is full, your strength multiplies. Empty spirits cannot carry heavy assignments. Let the Word be your daily bread, and success will follow like a shadow

In Summary:

Success is not a mystery, nor is it reserved for a few. With God as your source and His principles as your guide, you can walk in a life of purpose, fruitfulness, and lasting impact. Begin today. Choose discipline. Cultivate faith. Take action. And never stop growing.
Success is not just where you arrive—it’s who you become on the journey.
Success is a result of alignment—your spirit, mind, and actions working together with heaven’s blueprint. It is not about luck, nor is it reserved for a select few. It is available to anyone willing to rise, obey, and act.
You will not fail. You will not faint. You are born for greatness, equipped by grace, and positioned for lasting success.
